Ustad Daman (September 1911-December 3, 1984) was a Punjabi poet and mystic.
His real name was Chiragh Deen. He was a staunch supporter of
Hindu-Muslim-Sikh unity. Pandit Nehru called him the ‘Poet of Freedom’.
He was the most celebrated Punjabi poet at the time of the Partition of India
in 1947. He was a severe critic of military dictators who ruled over Pak. He

ਉਸਤਾਦ ਦਾਮਨ (੪ ਸਤੰਬਰ ੧੯੧੧ - ੩ ਦਸੰਬਰ ੧੯੮੪) ਦਾ ਅਸਲ ਨਾਂ ਚਿਰਾਗ਼ ਦੀਨ ਸੀ । ਉਹ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਸ਼ਾਇਰ
ਅਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਰਹੱਸਵਾਦੀ ਸਨ। ਦਾਮਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਖ਼ੱਲਸ ਸੀ । ਉਸਤਾਦ ਦਾ ਖਤਾਬ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ। ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਸੰਗਰਾਮ ਦੀ
ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ ਦੀ ਜਾਗ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੀਆਂ ਇਫਤਿਖਾਰਉੱਦੀਨ ਨੇ ਲਾਈ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਹਿੰਦੂ-ਮੁਸਲਿਮ-ਸਿੱਖ ਏਕਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੀ ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ
ਸ਼ਰਤ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਸਨ। ਉਸਤਾਦ ਦਾਮਨ ਫ਼ੱਕਰ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਕਵੀ ਸਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਕਵਿਤਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਪ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ
ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਸੀ। ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕਵਿਤਾਵਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੂੰਹ ਜ਼ੁਬਾਨੀ ਯਾਦ ਸਨ।
