From humans they seek shade today-Ghazal

(Original Punjabi: Gurbhajan Gill) English Version: Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman From humans they seek shade today, the trees stand cut and bare; The parents sit alone and lost, with eyes that hold no glare. The road now leads towards the pyres, poison spreads in every breeze; The forests burn as offerings, even breaths are hard to seize. I left my home to seek my goal, yet wandered far astray; The wings within my restless heart have lost their trust today. The threads of love and tender care, the kites’ strings broke apart; Fragrance found a heavenly home, and God embraced each heart. I left the garden full of blooms, they turned to stars above; Without my friends the earth feels empty, tears weigh heavy with love. Oh! eyes, do not weep anymore, this ocean of sorrow is deep; Where shall this little life find a drop, when even waters weep? The sun, the moon, the stars are gone; I gathered fireflies bright, Look within my folded arms — how many now glow with light.
